Riverleaf Katana || Japanese Samurai Sword

The subtle curve known the world over.

Renowned for its craftsmanship, its near-mythological tradition, and for its otherworldly cutting ability, the famed single-edged sword of the samurai takes its place in the armoury among the many iconic pieces of history.

There is a legend of two master swordsmiths of Nippon, who pitted their masterpieces against the other in a contest of cutting leaves as they flowed on the surface of the river. One, which sliced every leaf that crossed its edge, even as it was held still in the water. The other, allowed all to pass unperturbed around the blade, bringing no harm to what is not intended.
This tale instilled an extraordinary message, one of a powerful heart contained within a tranquil spirit. It was in honour of this haunting and beautiful story that this piece was thusly named Riverleaf.

In hand, it channels the serenity of simple appreciations. The wind dancing through trees, the gentle flow of a stream.
In its construction, this humble craftsman sought to imbue the spirit of nature, harmony, and the natural world within the essence of the sword. It was built with a calm heart, and unrushed steps.

Riverleaf's deep curve, in swing, steers the sword like a rudder through the water. It conveys the sensation of support, of self-aligning, as it swims through the air.

In its making, this piece's intention was to be more than just a sword, but a physical avatar of sincere simplicity, much as a leaf, a river, or a wooden katana can hold profound beauty and meaning.

-A blade of stout Hickory
-An elegant tsuba of Leopardwood laminated with Walnut veneer
-Supple 4oz leather wrap about the grip
-Boiled linseed oil to awaken the colours
-A double-seal coat of natural shellac

Riverleaf measures 41" / 104cm in total length,
led by a serene 28" / 72cm long single-edged blade,
with 11" / 27cm of grip at its hilt.
