Fate's Banner || Japanese Gunbai War Fan

This is not your grandma's fan.
Fate's Banner embodies the monumental weight of command, the station of strategist, and the thrill of taming the chaos of combat.

Its purpose was not to push empty wind at a sweating brow, but to convey across the theatre of a great battlefield the orders of the army's highest officers. Formations, advances, retreats, ambush, counterattack - all maneuvers correspond to a code of motion in the language of war fan.

Bold and uncompromising colours make up the paints of this standard, that it be unmistakable within the disarray of battle.

In typical troll fashion, the extra mile was not shied away from to create something extraordinary. Though the item itself may seem deceptively simple, no short routes were taken in its construction, that it may house the spirit fit for the greatness of its post, as a distinguished tactician should in their own soul.

The fan itself is daring and powerful. Comprised of two layers of armour grade leather, stiffened by a hidden backing held firmly but concealed in its center, while the haft itself it also formed around the backing, with not a fraction of a measurement too tight nor too loose in its attachment.
Black Walnut, oiled to a deep hue of dark brown, is split, carved, glued, and pressed around the central plate. Atop its centre ridge drapes the Gunbai's leather fan, creating the stout spine along its midline, a subtle but visible symbol of strength and sturdiness.
Finally, lavish deerskin leather wraps about the grip, and braided leather suede cordage ties a lanyard to the tail end of the haft, that this tool may live on as more than just an implement of utility, but a treasure of high caliber.

Its brazen palette of paint declares itself on the battlefield, as it issues silent commands with inaudible yet roaring authority, and tending to its duty with distinction and excellence.

-Stout armour grade leather on both faces of the fan

-A dark hued haft of Black Walnut
-Supple 4oz leather wrap about the grip
-Boiled linseed oil to awaken the colour of the haft
-A double-seal coat of natural shellac on the haft
-Acrylic sealer on the fan faces and edges

Fate's Banner measures a total length of 20" / 52cm,
the fan itself measuring 10" / 25cm long by 9" / 23cm wide,
with 9.75" / 25cm of haft in tow,
and 5.5" / 14cm of leather-wrapped grip.
