Fenris || Norse Viking Langseax with Wolf's Tooth Pattern

Drawing admired inspiration from the early medieval forges of the Scandinavian master bladesmiths, those who dared to reinvent the craft with a technique that would test the limits of knowledge and skill, this piece is an homage to both this spectacular specimen of cross-purpose knife of history and also to the artisanship that created the pattern known as the Wolf's Tooth.

Fenris seeks to be a faithful and reverent reproduction of the workhorse blade bred for both utility and warfare, adorned not with jewels or garish intricacy, but in the very artistry of the details. This piece sits among this workshop's more treasured pieces among the short blades of the collection.

In steel, this pattern would have been achieved by biting two separate steels together, welding them together in the forge, and imbuing the blade with properties no one steel could accomplish by itself. Too hard and a blade is brittle. Too soft and it doesn't hold an edge. Both together, a hard edge and a tough spine, trascends the physical properties of either alone, and also creates a blade that is of elemental significance. It becomes conduit to the soul of strength, of ferocity, of loyalty.

This emulation, honouring such mystic and supernatural effort, is mirrored in wood, and branded with fire.

A Hard White Maple blade gleams bright, contrasting immediately with the flame-kissed contours of the wolf's tooth pattern.
The grip, a harnessing of colour and contour, is given form with a multi-sectioned composition of complimenting accent timbers.

Fenris measures 21.5" / 54.5cm in total length,
led by a 15" / 40cm long blade,
and 5.75" / 14.5cm of grip at the hilt.
