Duelist || Cup Hilt Rapier

Nimble, swift, and exquisitely smooth. All the qualities a fencer should embody in their practice, harnessed into an artpiece fitting for an expert in the deadly dance of the duel.
This piece was faithfully created specifically for the studious practitioner of HEMA and historical fencing, or the most discerning musketeer.

Duelist *is* agility; finesse; grace; precision. It is bred for the parry, riposte, and faced-paced exchanges.

To this purpose, only an exceptional and carefully crafted work of artistry would do. A meticulously laminated blade, glued and pressed, retains strength and rigidity along its entire length, while also remaining dead straight. Given an incredibly subtle taper, and precision-cut bevels, it dances through the air with a most satisfying cut of a whiplash.

In-house made plywood, achieved by crossing grain horizontally and vertically, gives the crossguard a toughness unmatched by raw wood, maintaining its robustness even through every angle of its swooping curvature, suffering none of the weaknesses of a single running grain direction.

A counterbalancing pommel, elegant in form, deliberate in its mass.

And the centerpiece: the leather hilt cup. Premium armour grade leather, wet formed in a press, fitted to every facet, and faithfully stitched into its full being, taking place at the heart of this sword.

Merely taking up Duelist, fingers find their place naturally, effortlessly, and the hand guides itself into the contours of the hilt and guard, well protected behind the cup. Every aspect of this piece was made to evoke the swift flight of the swallow, gliding through the air with near zero resistance.

-An armour grade leather basket, wetformed and stitched to shape
-Supple 4oz leather wrap about the grip
-Boiled linseed oil to awaken the colours
-A double-seal coat of natural shellac

Duelist measures 44" / 112cm in total length,
with 35" / 89cm of length at the blade,
and an ample 6.5" / 16cm of grip at the hilt with inclusion of the finger ring inside the cup.
