Roundel || Medieval & Renaisance Battle Buckler

Lightweight, maneuverable, the definition of quickness on feet. The buckler was fashioned for a more agile style of close quarters fighting, favouring speed and technical skill, with the capability even for offense among its most skilled wielders, who utilize it to create openings for counterattack.

Roundel was created for just such objective of mobile shieldwork, deft in both dueling and skirmish.
Not some flimsy thing, this was made in typical Trollkarl fashion: overbuilt, hefty, and responsive.

1/2" Baltic birch plywood forms the base structure, met with a solid oak handle, stitched leather edging encircling the rim, an expertly hand forged steel umbo from a blacksmith in Poland, and all fused tight together with riveted nails over hand cut square washers.
The work then finally is sealed with a spin of supple deerskin leather wrapped about the grip.

This fully functional battle grade buckler is built as rigid as the full sized Viking round shield, but in snack size.
